Uninspired

Wishing 2011 would provide me the inspiration I need to get on with the better things I got lined up for myself.

Inspiration...come hither!

Coco Heaven

I never liked anything coconut.

Growing up in a tropical country, coconuts are readily available I got sick of eating it. You can only eat so much buco (coconut) pie, macaroons and drink coconut juice.

Moving to Canada I suddenly started craving ANYTHING coconut --- from chocolates covered in toasted coconut to coconut shrimp.I love to slather coconut body butter on my skin and smell coconut shampoo in the shower.

Coconut is lurrrve.

Last night, after supper of artichoke and lemon ravioli and a glass of fruity Sauvignon Blanc, I opened a box of assorted Ferrero chocolates. What caught my eye was the Ferrero Garden in silver wrapping. Curious what it tasted like, I opened it and to my surprise, a ball of wafer and creamy chocolate was covered in coconut! Heaven.

Organic

It was the last weekend of the outdoor farmer's market in St. Albert so my friend and I decided to visit and see what they had to offer. Quite frankly, I am not a believer of organic, free-range or buying food within a 100 mile radius. You know why? Because I am keeping it real. It's expensive and how do we know for sure these so called "farmers" are not just grabbing crates of fruits from the local wholesale store and changing the labels to make it look "organic"? Does it mean people who eat organic have a better chance of living healthy lives? Not really.

Call me a cynic or a party pooper but really, you just have to be smart with the food you eat. I grew up in a country where resources are scarce and we had very few choices in the food we ate. My fellow countrymen get by. They may not be totally nourished but we are still alive and kicking. Sometimes, we humans are just way too paranoid. For all we know, there is a grand plan out there that we are going against. People are just living longer--we definitely have an ageing population that the younger generation is not ready to take care of.

This may sound evil but if you do want to live long...long enough to get your stuff done in this world, go and eat healthy and organic. If you love living on the edge, eat whatever, whenever you like. Makes sense.

I say stop worrying-- just live.

Being Human

I was standing in the hotel lobby waiting for a dignitary to arrive. Working in a world-class downtown hotel, I am given the opportunity to meet different guests from different walks of life. Government officials, TV stars, band members,  professional hockey, football, and soccer players, the who's who in society etc. Funny but I never get starstruck. Why? Because I know, despite all that, they're human like us. Plus the fact that this is my job and just like any other client, I will treat you the way you should be treated -- like a guest in my home.

You'd be amazed how most of the people we idolize the most are the most reserved and down to earth people on this planet

To those of you who think you're all that...think again.

Gratitude

It's unfortunate a lot of people look for things they do not have and don't count the wonderful things they actually have. I am guilty of this sometimes and it's not easy to be grateful.

Life has been going really well and I have nothing to complain about. There are moments I wish I had someone to share my success and happiness with...not realizing I do have someone --- myself.

I am grateful for the cards that were dealt for me in my life. Grateful I come from a wonderful family. Thankful I am safe and healthy. Happy that I have gained the respect of my peers. Blessed that I am beautiful, inside and out.

What are you grateful for?

A gentle reminder

Sometimes in our lives, we need to be reminded of what's important. Lately, I have just been doing things and working too hard that I wonder if all of this are truly worth it. Now that I have a place I could call my home and a career which I proudly built from scratch, it's time to slow down and re-think my game plan.

Blogging has been a great outlet for me to share my thoughts and just let everything out. I stopped for a while since people discouraged me from going public about my life. But you know what, at my age I would know what's right for me. Going public is my way of sharing my experiences in the hopes that people get inspired or learn a thing or two from my life. I am no guru or public figure but I know somewhere, another person is experiencing the same things I am going through and it would definitely be great to know that we are all not alone.

Let this blog remind us we should take the time to stop....and breathe.
